* He won a two way primary and faced Republican opposition in the general election * WI Education Association Council ($206,246), Independent Citizens for Democracy ($33,600), Volunteers for Ag ($3,161), Wisconsin Right to Life ($1,750) and the Sierra Club ($700) supported Sen. Baumgart through independent spending. The Teddy Roosevelt Fund ($19,914) and Wisconsin Right to Life backed his opponent.
