CALL TO ACTION: Tell your senator to oppose anti-disclosure bill
Proposed legislation eliminating disclosure of the employers of campaign donors was awful to begin with, but an amendment approved today by a senate committee makes the bill considerably worse.

Please take a few minutes to call the Legislative Hotline at 800-362-9472 (266-9960 in Madison) or send an email urging your state senator to oppose Senate Bill 292. Enactment of this legislation would be a huge blow to campaign finance transparency and a mammoth step backward for clean and open government in Wisconsin.

This morning’s committee vote was 3-2 for both the amendment and the whole bill, with committee chairwoman Mary Lazich of New Berlin and fellow Republican senators Joe Leibham of Sheboygan and Frank Lasee of De Pere voting yes and Democrats Jon Erpenbach of Middleton and Spencer Coggs of Milwaukee voting no.

If you aren’t sure who your senator is, go here.

Donor database & Recall 2012 feature updated
The Democracy Campaign just updated our searchable database of contributors to state campaigns, adding thousands of new records of donations to this online tool that is 100% reliant on the state campaign finance disclosure law that would be gutted by Senate Bill 292. We also updated our Recall 2012 feature with new fundraising and campaign spending information for the six state officials currently targeted for recall.
