The plot twists and turns in the soap opera involving Annette Ziegler's ethics get more intriguing by the day. And the quagmire is no longer Ziegler's alone. A sitting Supreme Court justice is letting himself get sucked in too, and the whole court is now in a very awkward position. That's the subject of our latest Big Money Blog.
The Ruckus Corps of citizen activists that has grown out of the People's Legislature is planning to demonstrate in support of fair and impartial courts on Monday, May 7 at noon in front of the Supreme Court chambers in the Capitol. For anyone who wants to join this democracy brigade in making the point that politics and judges don't mix, participants will gather in room 225 Northwest shortly before the demonstration.
In our last E-Lert we reported that the Senate Campaign Finance Reform, Rural Issues and Information Technology Committee is holding a public hearing on three reform bills on Tuesday, May 1. We now have more details on that hearing. It will start at 9 a.m. in room 220 Southeast in the Capitol.
Wisconsin Right to Life's legal challenge of the federal McCain-Feingold campaign reform law promises to produce split opinions from a divided U.S. Supreme Court. It already is producing widely varied editorial comment. For a sampling, go here and here.
