WISCONSIN DEMOCRACY CAMPAIGN E-LERT
In this update:
1. Broad coalition seeks to awaken FCC as transition to digital TV proceeds
2. Legislators offer redistricting reform proposal
3. Lobbying reports available online
The nation's transition to digital television creates not only an opportunity but an urgent need to redefine broadcasters' public interest obligations, and so far the Federal Communications Commission has failed to take that bull by the horns but still has time to do so if it can muster the will. That is the gist of a filing submitted to the FCC yesterday by a coalition of 28 groups that includes the Democracy Campaign.
State Representatives Fred Kessler and Spencer Black announced Tuesday that they plan to introduce a proposed constitutional amendment reforming the process of redrawing state legislative districts. Reform of the redistricting process is step 4 of the Democracy Campaign's Power to the Voter agenda.
