If anyone thinks the impasse over the state budget has no consequences, read the excellent editorial in Sunday's Wisconsin State Journal, which lists some of the top reasons why passing a budget matters.
The People's Legislature will be banging pots and pans tomorrow at the Capitol to protest the partisan gridlock on the budget and to call for a promised special session on campaign finance reform this fall. In our September 13 E-Lert, we referred to Kenosha businessman Dennis Troha as a "convicted felon." Troha pleaded guilty in July to two misdemeanor federal campaign law violations for making illegal donations in 2002 through family members to the state Democratic Party. As part of the plea deal that resulted in his conviction on the misdemeanor charges, felony charges against Troha were dropped. We regret the error.
