WISCONSIN DEMOCRACY CAMPAIGN E-LERT
In this update:
1. State budget impasse enters 108th day with no end in sight
2. Take action on fake news
3. Claim Democracy conference in Washington, D.C. – November 9-11
The Legislature failed once again to end the state budget stalemate. This story is entering the realm of a Samuel Beckett play.
WISC-TV's Neil Heinen calls the Legislature "dysfunctional, ineffectual, and counter-productive." And an "embarrassment."
As the impasse enters its 108th day, paying lawmakers and keeping the Legislature running has cost all of us state taxpayers more than $20 million since July 1, the long-since-missed deadline for enacting a new budget. That money has been wasted. The Legislature hasn't accomplished a thing in the last three and a half months. It is paralyzed.
In our October 10 E-Lert, we mentioned some progress that's been made in the fight against fake TV news. The problem hasn't gone away yet. To take action to keep up the pressure on the Federal Communications Commission to crack down on fake news, go here.
Election reform advocates will be gathering in Washington, D.C. next month for a pro-democracy gathering, the 2007 Claim Democracy Conference. The Democracy Campaign is one of the sponsors. If you are able to make the trip, you can register for the conference here.
