WISCONSIN DEMOCRACY CAMPAIGN E-LERT
In this update:
1. Senate committee to take testimony on Clean Elections reform
2. Attorney group chimes in on need for judicial reform
A Senate committee will hold a public hearing next week on a sweeping campaign finance reform bill and another reform measure.
The subject of the hearing will be Senate Bill 182, legislation calling for full public financing of all state races modeled after the highly successful systems already in place in Arizona and Maine, and Senate Bill 160, which aims to make sure out-of-state political committees play by the same disclosure rules as in-state campaigns. There's a long, bizarre story behind SB 160. To find out what we mean, go here.
The hearing will be held on Tuesday, January 29 at 1 p.m. in room 400 Southeast in the Capitol.
The public wants it. The entire state Supreme Court is begging for it. Now the voice of Wisconsin trial lawyers is saying something's got to give.
What is it? Reform of the way judicial elections are conducted. This was the subject of an article in yesterday's Wausau Daily Herald.
The Democracy Campaign's director was on the radio for an hour last night talking about the new book on the condition of democracy in the Great Lakes region that was released last week by the Midwest Democracy Network.
