Out-of-State Committee Reporting Requirements
Senate Bill 17/Assembly Bill 28
Updated: June 20, 2011
Senate Bill 17 and Assembly Bill 28 require that out-of-state committees comply with the same campaign finance reporting requirements as resident committees. The legislation was previously enacted as 2005 Wisconsin Act 176. However, it had to be reintroduced after it was learned that the new law was not incorporated into the state statutes. It was reintroduced in 2007 but received only senate committee consideration and support, and again in 2009 where it received only assembly committee support. See our testimony on 2007 SB 160.
SB 17 was introduced and referred to the Senate committee on Transportation and Elections on February 9, 2011.
AB 28 was introduced and referred to the Assembly committee on Election and Campaign Reform on February 22, 2011. A public hearing for AB 28 was held on Thursday, June 9. Read WDC testimony here.
