This is a Washington D.C.-based corporation created by the Democratic Governors Association, which supports Democratic candidates for governor around the country. In the past, the group funneled more than $2 million through the Greater Wisconsin Committee to support Wisconsin candidates for governor in the 2006 and 2010 general elections rather than sponsor its own advertising and outside electioneering activities.
DGA Action registered in late April to make independent expenditures against Republican Governor Scott Walker who faces a June 5 recall election for his plan last year to restrict public employee collective bargaining rights. Two weeks before the June election, the group had reportedly spent nearly $36,000 on online advertising, and started an online fundraising drive to raise money for advertisements on behalf of Walker's opponent, Democrat Tom Barrett.
This organization is registered with the Government Accountability Board following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC as a corporation making independent disbursements.
