Justice Ziegler was appointed to the Washington County Circuit Court by Governor Tommy Thompson in 1997 where she served until first elected to the State Supreme Court in 2007. After surviving a three way primary, she faced Madison attorney Linda Clifford in the general election. Concerned Business and Industry ($36,100) made independent expenditures favoring Justice Ziegler. Fair Wisconsin ($4,547), Greater Wisconsin Committee ($20,008), Human Rights League ($287), MTI Voters ($3,076), Planned Parenthood Advocates of WI ($35,285) and TAA-PAC ($445) made independent expenditures supporting Clifford. Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (estimated $2.2 million) and the Club for Growth Wisconsin (estimated $400,000) spent undisclosed amounts on "issue ads" supporting Ziegler, while the Greater Wisconsin Committee (estimated $400,000) spent undisclosed amounts in support of her opponent. |
