The Democracy Campaign today released an analysis of large individual campaign contributions state lawmakers received in 2007 from donors living outside Wisconsin. The top givers were supporters of using public money for private schooling. Right behind them on the list of out-of-state donors were loan sharks.

These contributors can’t vote for any of the politicians they are aiding financially. And their money is clearly flowing to power. Far and away the top recipients of this out-of-state cash are the governor and the campaign committees run by top legislative leaders.

Yesterday the Democracy Campaign held its annual membership meeting. Singer-songwriter Peter Leidy and Calli Steinhoff were on hand to perform "Statehouse Crock." The meeting’s keynote was delivered by former Republican state lawmaker Terri McCormick, who gave her audience plenty to think about and inspired our latest Big Money Blog.
