2010 Election Notes and Background
Before his election in 2010, Governor Walker served as Milwaukee County executive from 2002 to 2010, and unsuccessfully ran for the GOP nomination for governor in 2006.  He was first elected Milwaukee County executive in an April 2002 special election prompted by a movement to recall the incumbent executive who retired rather than face a recall election. Walker was elected to the Assembly from 1993 to 2002.  Before serving in the Assembly, Walker worked as a salesman for IBM Corporation and as a financial representative for the American Red Cross.  The governor was born November 2, 1967 in Colorado Springs.
He won a three-way primary and faced one Democratic and two Independent opponents in the general election.

Koch Industries Inc. ($70), Northwoods Patriot Group Inc. ($71), NRA Political Victory Fund ($148,760), Right Direction Wisconsin PAC ($3,479,008), Volunteers for Agriculture ($128,217) and Wisconsin Right to Life PAC ($1,422) made independent expenditures favoring Governor Walker.

Advancing Wisconsin, Inc. ($205,555), Citizen Action of Wisconsin Inc. ($7,556), Fair Wisconsin PAC ($239), Greater Wisconsin Committee PAC ($1,727,066), Greater Wisconsin Political Independent Expenditure Fund ($212,252), IUPAT Political Action ($1,124), MTI Voters ($750), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin Political Fund ($14,715), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin Inc. ($87,455), Voces de la Frontera Action Committee ($18,666), Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters PAC ($20,828) and Wisconsin Professional Police Assocation ($20,190) made independent expenditures supporting his Democratic opponent.

American Justice Partnership (estimated $600,000), Americans for Limited Government (estimated $125,000), Republican Governors Association (estimated $1.5 million), and Wisconsin Manufacturers and Commerce (estimated $950,000) spent undisclosed sums on "issue ads" in support of Governor Walker. Greater Wisconsin Political Fund (estimated $2.9 million) and One Wisconsin Now (no estimate) spent undislosed sums in opposition.
