2012 Recall Election Notes and Background

Lieutenant Governor Kleefisch was first elected in 2010.

She was one of six officials who faced recall elections in June 2012 in response to the successful implementation in 2011 of Governor Walker’s plan to restrict public employee collective bargaining rights. She was unopposed in the primary and faced Democratic opposition in the general election. In the recall election, unlike a normal general election, the public votes directly for lieutenant governor.

Republican State Leadership Committee Inc. ($29,713) made independent expenditures favoring Lieutenant Governor Kleefisch.

DLCC Wisconsin PAC ($11,219), Fire Fighters for Mahlon Mitchell ($368,508), Planned Parenthod Advocates of Wisconsin Inc. ($28,734), We Are Wisconsin Political Fund ($67,792), Wisconsin Education Association Council ($971), Wisconsin Recall Movement ($395) and Working America ($22,229) made independent expenditures in support of her Democratic opponent.
