Spring: OathSpending

This is a new outside electioneering group created to back Democratic and liberal candidates.  The Monona-based group is associated with One Wisconsin Now, a liberal advocacy group.

Among Better Wisconsin’s leaders is Michelle McGrorty, the former executive director of the Greater Wisconsin Committee (GWC).  GWC is a longtime backer of Democratic and liberal candidates in Wisconsin legislative and statewide elections.

About three weeks before the April 7th spring elections, A Better Wisconsin first filed paperwork with the state showing it spent $500,000 on digital ads in the Wisconsin Supreme Court race.  The group is supporting Dane County Circuit Judge Jill Karofsky, who faces incumbent Justice Dan Kelly.

Less than two weeks before the election the group reported spendng an additional $738,000 on mailers, television and digital ads.

Some of the group's digital ads attacked Kelly for being routinely siding with conservatives in the court's rulings, like here and here.

This organization is registered with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission as an independent expenditure committee following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC.
