This organization first registered with the Government Accountability Board on June 29, 2011 to make independent expenditures in two Democratic recall primaries: Senate Districts 18 and 32. The group supported 'fake' Democratic candidates John Buckstaff in the 18th District race where incumbent Republican Senator Randy Hopper of Fond du Lac faced a recall and James Smith in the 32nd District race where incumbent Republican Senator Dan Kapanke of La Crosse also the target of a recall. Buckstaff and Martin said they were running in the primaries as a protest against the recalls.
Shortly before the July 12 primary, the Patriot Advisors sponsored a flyer supporting Buckstaff as the Democratic candidate who will "roll up his sleeves and work with Governor Walker." The flyer said the other Democrat in the race, Jessica King, wants "to give government unions a free ride." Despite spending on a flyer, the group did not file the legally required spending reports with the state's Government Accountability Board.
Little is known of the organization. According to registration materials orginally filed with the Government Accountability Board, it had a post office box in Cobb, Wisconsin. It's email is for a web domain registered on June 26, 2011 through a privacy service thus concealing the identity of the domain's owners.
This organization is registered with the Government Accountability Board following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC as a corporation making independent disbursements.
