OathSpending

This political action committee was created by the Vermont-based Democracy for America founded in 2004 by former Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean to make independent expenditures to support Democrats for state offices around the country.  The committee spent $284,112 in the 2011 Senate recall races and the 2011 spring state Supreme Court race.  In addition, Democracy for America chipped in an unknown portion of the estimated $750,000 in undisclosed issue ad spending when it teamed with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee (PCCC) to sponsor television ads in last year's nine recall races.

The committee filed paperwork with the state saying it may make independent expenditures in the 2012 recall races targeting Republican Governor Scott Walker, Lieutenant Governor Rebecca Kleefisch and four GOP Senate seats.  Walker and the others faced June 5 recall elections after passage of the governor's 2011 plan to restrict public employee collective bargaining rights.

The group sponsored a canvassing effort with a goal of knocking on more than 125,000 doors in Eau Claire, Racine, Madison and elsewhere throughout the state but only reported independent spending in the governor's race.
