Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance

This phony issue ad group was created by the Wisconsin Realtors Association, a powerful special interest group that lobbies on taxes, environmental, construction and other regulatory, policy and spending issues that affect realtors and home sales in the state. Like other issue ad groups, the alliance does not have to file fundraising and spending reports with the state that detail its outside electioneering activities. The alliance claims that it is funded through the Wisconsin Realtors Association and realtors dues to the organization.
For decades, the Realtors Association's political action committee has made direct contributions to mostly Republican candidates for statewide office and the legislature. More recently, the Realtors Association created a corporation to make independent expenditures, and spent $317,366 in 2012 fall election and the 2013 spring contest on radio, newspaper and online ads. It also has a 527 group to raise and spend unlimited amounts of money for outside electioneering activities.
The Wisconsin Homeowners Alliance sponsored a 60-second radio to support Republican candidate Jessie Rodriguez in a November 19th special election to fill a vacant seat in the 21st Assembly District. The ad - below - said Rodriguez supports lower taxes and lower government spending and provides listeners with a phone number to call her if they support the same.
