This is the Washington D.C.-based political action committee run by the Service Employees International Union - SEIU - that was recently registered to make independent expenditures in Wisconsin elections. The union supported Democrat Mary Burke in her effort to unseat incumbent Republican Governor Scott Walker in the November 4 general elections.
No PAC affiliated with the SEIU had made independent expenditures in Wisconsin state elections since 2006 when three different SEIU PACs spent nearly $55,000 on races for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general and the 80th Assembly District. The union, however, funneled at least $920,000 during the first six months of 2012 to a corporation called We Are Wisconsin Political Fund that was formed by a coalition of national labor unions in an unsuccesful attempt to defeat Walker in a June 2012 recall election.
