This is a longtime Madison-based lobbying organization that represents the state's construction industry. The group spent nearly half a million dollars between January 2015 and December 2016 on lobbying tax, labor, regulatory and other issues on behalf of construction companies.
Associated Builders and Contractors has operated a political action committee, which made direct contributions to mostly Republican legislative and statewide candidates totaling $88,300 between January 2011 and Decenber 2016.
This is the first election in which the group has directly spent money on outside electioneering activities, in this case phony, undisclosed issue ads. In October, Associated Builders and Contractors sponsored nearly identical radio and television ads supporting three GOP Assembly incumbents: Rep. Mary Czaja, of Irma (ad); Joel Kitchens, of Sturgeon Bay (ad); and Romaine Quinn, of Rice Lake (television ad and radio ad). The ads praised the trio for their support of reduced taxes and regulations.
The Democracy Campaign estimates the group spent about $45,000 on issue ads in the 2016 legislative elections.
