State board hands out stiff fines for excessive campaign donations
On the heels of its unanimous vote to close the biggest loophole in Wisconsin’s campaign finance laws, which the Green Bay Press-Gazette applauded in a recent editorial, the state Government Accountability Board announced hefty fines assessed to seven big campaign donors flagged by the Democracy Campaign last October for running afoul of state limits on campaign contributions.

The enforcement action stands in sharp contrast to the track record of the elections board the GAB replaced, which routinely did little or nothing to violators.
