WDC memo to senators: Reject anti-disclosure bill
The Democracy Campaign sent a memo to all members of the Wisconsin senate this morning expressing opposition to proposed legislation that rolls back disclosure of the financial interests of campaign donors. The memo includes an analysis of the legislation’s impact on the public’s right to know, quantifying the dramatic decrease in the number of campaign donors whose economic interests would be known if the bill is enacted.
Don’t let them do violence to transparency in election financing. Your senator has just heard from us. Please help reinforce our message by contacting your senator to demand rejection of Senate Bill 292.
Recall money in the news
Governor Scott Walker’s latest campaign fundraising report made headlines across the state, and the Democracy Campaign’s analysis of where the governor got his money was featured prominently in the coverage by The Associated Press, Wisconsin State Journal, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Wisconsin Public Radio and WMTV, among many others.
Walker probe heating up
More criminal charges were filed today in the John Doe investigation of aides to Governor Walker. And the probe is taking a new turn, according to sources talking to the state’s largest newspaper.
People’s Legislature reconvening
Political insiders are huddling in back rooms plotting Wisconsin’s future. But it’s your state and your future, not just theirs. We all should have a say in our political destiny. That’s why the People’s Legislature is reconvening . . . to create an open forum to discuss what kind of politics and what kind of state we want to see. The forum will be held on Wednesday, February 1 at the Alliant Energy Center on 1919 Alliant Energy Way in Madison. For those of you on Facebook, you can sign up for the event there. Otherwise, just plan on coming on the 1st.
