A Note from Matt Rothschild

A note from Matt Rothschild on his first day as executive director of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign. A Note from Matt Rothschild

WDC’s new executive director

January 5, 2015

Dear friends of the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign,

I’m thrilled to be here at the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign.

While it’s humbling to try to fill the shoes of Mike McCabe, who did such a terrific job here for so many years, I look forward to continuing his great work and to moving this crucial organization forward. And it’s an honor to work with WDC’s terrific staff.

It’s more urgent than ever that we get money out of politics in Wisconsin, and we’ve got our work cut out for us.

In the next few months, the legislature will be trying to weaken our campaign finance laws to allow wealthy contributors to donate even more money to individual candidates. It is also trying to make it easier for outside groups to coordinate their efforts with campaigns. And it has already set its sights on the Government Accountability Board.

You can count on the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign to guard against any attempts to strengthen the stranglehold that big money has on our democracy, and to vigilantly monitor our political system for corruption from any source and on any side.

As Fighting Bob La Follette once said, “The cure for the ills of democracy is more democracy.”

Let’s bring more democracy to Wisconsin!
