This Washington D.C.-based conservative group was created in 2004 by former Republican congressmen Dick Armey and Jack Kemp to help elect GOP congressional candidates.
FreedomWorks' top issues include repealing the Affordable Care Act, commonly called Obamacare, lower taxes, and less government spending and regulation. The group was also a key player in the tea party movement about 10 years ago.
Until the 2019 Wisconsin State Supreme Court election, the first and last time the group surfaced in Wisconsin state elections was during the 2012 recall races when it spent about $51,000 to support former GOP Gov. Scott Walker.
About a week before the April 2 spring elections the group first filed paperwork showing it sponsored robocalls on behalf of Appeals Court Judge Brian Hagedorn. It later reported additional spending towards online advertising.
Hagedorn ran against fellow Appeals Judge Lisa Neubauer for an open seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Hagedorn won the election.

This organization is registered with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission as an independent expenditure committee following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC.
