This is a new corporation that appeared about two weeks before the Nov. 6 election with the same Washington, D.C., address as the Republican Governors Association (RGA). The RGA already has a political action committee called Right Direction Wisconsin that also made expenditures in Wisconsin’s 2018 race for governor.
Both ACC Wisconsin PAC, which was referred to as the American Comeback Committee Wisconsin in television ad-buy documents, and Right Direction Wisconsin sponsored activities to support the reelection of GOP Gov. Scott Walker, who faced Democrat Tony Evers.
The ACC Wisconsin PAC initially reported nearly $1.9 million in independent expenditures for consulting and broadcast and online advertising. A 30-second television ad sponsored by the group accused Evers, who was state school superintendent at the time of election, of doling out bonuses to state bureaucrats rather than spending the money on schools.
Only a day after it first reported spending on advertising it reported an additional $1.5 million on television advertisements and direct mail. The mailers claimed that Evers would raise taxes on property, income and gas as well as a host of other fees.
This organization is registered with the Wisconsin Ethics Commission as an independent expenditure committee following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC.
