I support a 28th Amendment!
The Supreme Court’s rulings in Citizens United v. FEC in 2010 and McCutcheon v. FEC in 2014 effectively take the “r” out of free speech and further empower a wealthy few to control our elections and our government while weakening the voices of the many. Dozens of Wisconsin communities have called for aconstitutional amendment to reverse the effects of Citizens United, McCutcheon and related decisions.
I, too, support a statewide advisory referendum on a 28th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution that states:
1) Only human beings -- not corporations, unions, nonprofit organizations, or similar Associations -- are endowed with constitutional rights, and
2) Money is not speech, and therefore limiting political contributions and spending is not equivalent to restricting political speech.
