This is a new corporation created to make independent expenditures by the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee, a Washington D.C.-based group affiliated with the national Democratic Party that supports Democratic candidates for legislative offices around the country. he organization raises funds through a 527 group and other means from labor unions and large corporations. Previously, the committee used a state political action committee to sponsor outside electioneering activities in Wisconsin races.
The corporation filed paperwork with the state showing it spent $170,000 on consulting and media in October to oppose Howard Marklein, the Republican candidate in the hotly contested open seat in 17th Senate District. The group sponsored a 30-second television ad shortly before the November 4 election that accused Marklein of voting in favor of numerous budgets cuts to education and other programs and in favor of special interest tax breaks as an Assembly representative.
Marklein won the election.
This organization is registered with the Government Accountability Board as an independent disbursement committee following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC.
