Service Employees International Union (SEIU) is a labor union which represents health care, home care, nursing home, public service and building service workers in Wisconsin.
Towards the end of July the SEIU reported spending on behalf of Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Mahlon Mitchell in the August primary. Mitchell, president of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin and former candidate for lieutenant governor in the 2012 recall, was one of eight active candidates vying for the Democratic nomination for governor. State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Evers won the Democratic nomination.
In mid-October it first reported spending in oppostion to incumbent Republican Gov. Scott Walker's bid for a third term.
The last time the SEIU State Council made independent expenditures in a state election was 12 year earlier through its PAC. By using an unregistered independent expenditure group instead it is not held to the same reporting requirements or funding source restrictions as a PAC.
There were two other SEIU affiliated committees involved in Wisconsin's 2018 elections: SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin and Service Employees International Union Committee on Political Education.

This organization is an unregistered independent expenditure committee that is required to report any such spending done within 60 days of a primary or an election to the Wisconsin Ethics Commission per Chapter 11, Subchapter X of Wisconsin Statutes.
