MoveOn.org registered as a corporation in May 2011 to conduct independent expenditures in recall elections called in response to union-busting measures in Governor Scott Walker's budget repair bill passed in March of that year.
MoveOn.org was formed in 1998 to oppose the impeachment of President Bill Clinton. Since then it has supported numerous Democratic candidates and progressive issues.
In June 2011 the corporation filed an oath of independent expenditures opposing all then-known Republican candidates involved in the recall elections.
The committee spent money on television ads in support of Democratic challenger Fred Clark in the 14th Senate District recall election, and teamed with the Progressive Change Campaign Committee's corporation and Democracy for America on a television ad to oppose incumbent Senator Alberta Darling of River Hills who faced a recall challenge for her 8th District seat.
MoveOn.org also had a PAC registered to make independent expenditures in the recalls.
This organization is registered with the Government Accountability Board following the January 2010 U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Citizens United v. FEC as a corporation making independent disbursements.
