2011 Recall Election Finance Profile - Alberta Darling

Senator Darling was first elected to the Assembly in a May 1990 special election and to the Senate in 1992.

Senator Darling was one of nine senators facing recall elections in 2011 spurred by the passage of Governor Scott Walker's plan to curtail public employee collective bargaining rights. She had no primary opposition and was opposed in the August election by Representative Sandy Pasch, the Democratic incumbent from the 22nd Assembly District.

American Federation for Children Action Fund IE Committee ($1,015), NFIB Safe Trust ($285), NRA Political Victory Fund ($2,837) and Wisconsin Right to Life PAC ($2,662) made independent expenditures favoring Senator Darling.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin Inc. ($27,897), DFA-Wisconsin ($80,724), DLCC Wisconsin PAC ($63), Greater Wisconsin Political Independent Expenditure Fund ($454,154), MoveOn.org Political Action Wisconsin IE Committee ($90,410), NAACP National Voter Fund ($14,990), PCCC Recall Committee ($30,348), PCCC Recall Fund IE ($81,561), People for the American Way ($41,125), PFFW Defense Fund ($1,132), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin Political Fund ($37,839), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin Inc. ($16,400), Voces de la Frontera Action Committee ($300), We Are Wisconsin PAC ($2,616,828), WEAC PAC ($92,930), Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters IE Committee ($5,700), Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters PAC ($10,337), Wisconsin Recall Initiative ($150), Wisconsin Sierra Club Education Committee ($44,508) and Wisconsin WOMEN VOTE! ($2,635) made independent expenditures supporting her opponent.

One group, Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama PAC (estimated $2,083), made independent expenditures in support of Senator Darling but did not register with the state's Government Accountability Board or file any other legally mandated documentation.

American Federation for Children, Americans for Prosperity, Citizens for a Strong America and Club for Growth Wisconsin spent undisclosed sums on "issue ads" in support of Senator Darling. Greater Wisconsin Committee, One Wisconsin Now and Progressive Change Campaign Committee & Democracy for America spent undisclosed sums on "issue ads" in opposition.
