2011 Recall Election Finance Profile - Robert Wirch

Senator Wirch was first elected to the Assembly in 1992 and to the Senate in 1996.

Senator Wirch was one of nine senators facing recall elections in 2011 spurred by the passage of Governor Scott Walker's plan to curtail public employee collective bargaining rights. He had no primary opposition and faced Republican opposition in the August recall election.

Citizen Action of Wisconsin Inc. ($37,240), DLCC Wisconsin PAC ($26), Greater Wisconsin Political Independent Expenditure Fund ($49,615), PCCC Recall Committee ($2,333), Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin Political Fund ($4,335), Voces de la Frontera Committee ($9,718), We Are Wisconsin PAC ($877,395), WEAC PAC ($87,670), Wisconsin Sierra Club Education Committee ($1,200) and Working America ($18,210) made independent expenditures favoring Senator Wirch.

NFIB Safe Trust ($285), Taxpayers Hoping for Change ($2,765) and Wisconsin Right to Life PAC ($482) made independent expenditures supporting his opponent.

Two groups, Campaign to Defeat Barack Obama PAC (estimated $12,500) and Our Country Deserves Better (estimated $12,500) made independent expenditures favoring Senator Wirch's opponent but did not register with the state Government Accountability Board or file any other legally required documentation.
