Senator Marklein was first elected to the Assembly in 2010 and the Senate in 2014. He was unopposed in the primary and faced Democratic opposition in the general election. American Federation for Children Action Fund IE Committee Inc ($565,100), American Majority Action ($8,881) and Americans for Prosperity IE Committee ($25,964) made independent expenditures favoring Senator Marklein. For Our Future ($23,090), Forward Majority Action ($15,372), Greater Wisconsin Political Independent Expenditure Fund ($465,294), High Ground Political Fund ($164,111), Progressive Takeover Independent Expenditure Committee ($62,629), Wisconsin Conservation Voters Independent Expenditure Committee ($109,749) and Wisconsin Leadership Committee ($43,854) supported his opponent.
